Using oils for self-care rituals

STEP ONE

Purefume Blends + Mens Colognes

We are so passionate about families swapping out some of the toxic products in their homes for non-toxic options.
One of the first, and easiest swaps you can make is to swap your toxic perfumes out and make up your own with your oils. There is no right or wrong way, just get yourself some empty roller bottles and mix a few of your favourite oils together.

Watch this video where Matt Worley talks about his favourite way to support his wellbeing and reduce his body’s exposure to synthetic aroma’s by making his own colognes + ‘Mens Blends’.

STEP THREE

Immune Support

With pure, high-grade natural alternatives to support yours and your family’s wellbeing, you’ll wonder why this information isn’t more readily available!

Here Matt and Claudia and sharing one of their favourite ways to care for each others wellbeing and that is by giving eachother an essential oil massage.

This massage is focussed on optimising the immune system with support from essential oils renown for their ability to help the body into wellbeing.

DIY ESSENTIAL OIL SUPPLEMENTS

DIY capsule of goodness!!

In my fingers you’ll see half of a vege capsule 💊 into which I am adding a drop of a couple of select essential oils chosen for their anti-inflammatory & antiviral properties.

Here I’m using 1 drop of each:
  • Oregano
  • Black Pepper
  • On Guard
  • Frankincense

You’ll want to pop the other half on to close the capsule & swallow it with a glass of water.

Since the On Guard soft-gels sold out, these little capsules of goodness have been my go-to for a booster of support.

I don’t take them daily though – just when I feel a bit run down or susceptible to any external threats to my wellbeing 😘

DIY WELLNESS BLEND

This blend has been by my side ever since I started with dōTERRA due to the powerful support it provides my body and I think you should have it too!

Ingredients:
  • On Guard
  • Frankincense
  • Lemon
  • Oregano
  • Tea Tree
Steps:
  1. In a 10ml glass roller bottle use 10 drops of the above oils.
  2. Fill the rest up with your Fractionated Coconut Oil, shake gently to blend.
  3. Apply daily to the soles of both feet and to your lower back to support your kidneys.

STEP FOUR

Hormonal Support

Essential Oils can provide an immediate and natural support to a woman’s monthly cycle and beyond.

STEP Five

DIY Skincare & Hair Care

While dōTERRA has three amazing lines of non-toxic skin care, it is sometimes fun to make up some of your own little DIY items. You can find recipes on Pinterest, dōTERRA’s website and many other natural wellness sites.

There are so many oils that are amazing for supporting your skin health, so check out your favourite resource for ‘skin’ or the area in which you need support for your skin so you know which are the best oils to use in your creations.

Below are some recipes and videos which cater for both the men in our lives as much as for us ladies.  Plus you’ll learn some super easy ways to dress up your loving creations to gift people something special.  Perhaps to a lonely neighbour in your street or a work colleague strung out trying to balance homeschooling kids…
DIY SKIN CARE + HAND SANITISER
Ooooooo – what fun it was co-creating this class with my my love @mattworley 🙂 and thank you to those that joined in with us on Easter Saturday (11 April 2020) ~ it was lovely to see your faces!!

For those watching this repeat, here’s what we made:
  • Manly Shaving Cream
  • Detox Brown Sugar Body Scrub
  • Relaxing Bath Salts
  • Portable Hand Sanitiser
You’ll need the following Ingredients:
  • Brown Sugar (your choice of light or dark brown – personally I like mine dark..)
  • Sea Salt
  • Epsom / Magnesium Salt
  • Shea Butter
  • Solid Coconut Oil
  • Liquid Coconut Oil (yes, there is a difference – the liquid oil has had the long chain fatty acids gently heated out so it doesn’t smell like coconuts and remains liquids in cooler months)
  • Methylated Spirits
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Dried Flower Petals herbal tea leaves (you don’t ‘need’ these BUT they are just so darn pretty!!)
  • Wide Mouth Mason Jars
  • 100ml Glass Spray Bottles
  • Measuring Cups
  • Tablespoons + Chopsticks for stirring
  • Medium Sized Mixing Bowl

Have fun everyone!

DIY ANTI-HAIR LOSS SERUM
It’s said that our hair is a crowning glory – so what can we do when it begins to thin & fall out due to stress of hormone changes?

We make our own hair serums from pure, high grade essential oils of course!

Now I’m using myself as a guinea pig here ~ usually my dear friend Renato De Felice from Contact Hair Services looks after my hair, he cuts my curls perfectly to hide the thinning that’s been occurring these past few years. But I can’t get to him in Perth because I’m in lockdown at home in NSW (Perth friends if you’re looking for a stylist unlike any other, he’s your man).

In this recipe we are using the following essential oils:

  • 8 drops of Rosemary
  • 10 drops of Lavender
  • 10 drops of Sandalwood
  • 10 drops of Tea Tree
  • 10 drops Cedarwood
  • + Fractionated Coconut Oil

The recipe is from The Essential Life book (pg. 296).

I’m making the more intense version of the blend with the above recipe, but you can make one using the following recipe:

  • 5 drops of Cedarwood
  • 5 drops of Cypress
  • 5 drops of Lavender
  • 5 drops of Rosemary

STEPS

OPTION 1 > blend these into an empty bottle and add a couple of drops to your shampoo & massage your scalp

OPTION 2 > blend 2 drops of each of the oils listed above with liquid coconut oil, massage into your scalp then cover with a shower cap for a few hours (or overnight) then wash your hair.

So ~ give either of these a go & be diligent in your use! It’ll take a couple of months before you start seeing a result 😘

STEP SIX

DIY Green Cleaning

One of our biggest passions as wellness advocates is looking at some of the products that are in our home and making conscious swaps to more natural, non-toxic products.
Conventional cleaning products are probably some of the worst things you can use for your long-term health, so we have shared some of our favourite DIY recipes below. These are really simple and cost-effective ways to clean your home naturally.
If you haven’t already, check out unit one where we have our ‘pick your path’ program which includes a green cleaning option.
DIY KITCHEN ALL PURPOSE SPRAYS
The power to reduce the toxic load within your family home is literally in your hands!

Create inexpensive, non-toxic cleaners from ingredients already in your home with your essential oils – they are not only safe for your family, but also for the environment as well.

Always use a spray bottle made of thick click glass.

Check my Resources Links in Unit 1, Post 5 for online shop suggestions to get some of these bottles.

STEPS…
  1. Start with 1 ¾ cups of water
  2. Add ½ cup of white vinegar
  3. Add up to 30 drops of essential oils
  4. Viola, you’re done!

You can experiment with ratios of essential oils based on your sense of smell + what you’re planning to use it for.

For example, Lemongrass is excellent for removing sticky substances from surfaces (think of children’s toys, old sticky tape on benches + stubborn white board marker!)

On Guard is great for mold like in bathrooms, try combining it with Clove for an extra kick. But it’s also so yummy to in wintertime to help your home smell warm from the spicy oils.

Lemon is so refreshing for cleaning the inside of your fridge with…

Here are some combination suggestions:
  • Lavender + Lemon
  • Lemon + Tea Tree
  • Eucalyptus + Peppermint + Wild Orange
  • On Guard + Grapefruit
  • On Guard + Clove

Happy Creating!

STEP SEVEN

No-Tox Room Sprays

Did you know that one of the most toxic ingredients in our everyday “smelly things“ is the synthetic fragrance? Now that you have your own natural fragrances right at your fingertips, here are our favourite recipes for making up your own sprays.

Making up sprays is a great option for many areas of your house including toilet areas, fabric & linen sprays, and even DIY purefume sprays. The best part is you can get really creative! There really are no rules just pick your favourite scents and get spraying.

To give you some ideas on where to get started we’ll be sharing some of our favourite spray recipes with you here – stay tuned!

STEP EIGHT

Using oils for self-care rituals

We all know that self-care is really important. And essential oils are a great way to help you prioritise that self-care whilst supporting you physically & emotionally.

There are many ways you can use essential oils in your self-care and we are going to list some of the best ways we can think of, and we will keep adding recipes in here as we find them.

  • Add Vetiver, Ylang Ylang, AromaTouch or Lavender essential oils to Epsom salts and take a long warm bath
  • Add Frankincense, Sandalwood or Balance essential oils to your meditation practice.
  • Add Lavender, Wild Orange + Frankincense essential oils or Citrus Bliss essential oil to your morning routine and incorporate aromatic dressing.
  • Add Lemon or a blend of Basil, Wild Orange + Lavender essential oils to your diffuser when taking some time out for yourself, even if it’s reading a book.
  • Add Smart + Sassy or Motivate Touch essential oils to support you during your exercise routines.
  • Take your favourite muscle loving essential oil like Ice Blue, Marjoram or AromaTouch with you to your massages.
